Risk Factors
Risk factors for type1 diabetes occur mainly in adults, it is fast becoming a major problem in the adolescent age group in many parts of the world. Therefore anyone, anywhere, at any age is at risk of developing diabetes. These are:
- Do you have a family history?
- Were you born big (over 4 kg)?
- Have you ever given birth to a big baby (over 4 kg)?
- Are you overweight? i.e., waist measurement is more than half your height
- Have you lost/ gained weight?
- Have you changed your lifestyle? i.e., reduced your level of exercise
- If your answer is yes to any of the above questions then you need to go for diabetes check-up or screening.
