Annual Golf Tournament

Annual Charity Golf Tournament Intra Africa Assurance Co. Ltd has been the main sponsor of this event for the last close to 10 years. We have also been supported by other corporate organizations. Through this event, we have been able to support various Centre oriented activities such as; Screening & Awareness Programme for various corporate entities who have expressed need for education sessions for their employees. DMI has used this opportunity to not only educate but also screening for Diabetes and Hypertension to these employees. These sessions have been a lot of help due to the scant public information on diabetes. Community-based training of lay people in diabetes has continued in earnest with part support from this event. This group is very crucial in community education as they do not always need an organised forum. They come into contact with their neighbours of all cadres and at all times due to proximity of the homes.

They have started disseminating education in various areas. We have trained approximately 865,165 lay educators with information on diabetes care and prevention. Out of these forums those trained have been able to form diabetes support groups in various parts of the country which in turn act as the Centres' contacts on the ground. We have continued to carry out mass screening and community education on diabetes during the numerous medical camps the centre undertakes in different parts of the country. These activities are support by various corporate such as Safaricom Foundation and Kenya Power and Lighting Co. Ltd. As part of her contribution, the centre uses part of funds drawn from annual fund-raisers such as the Golf Tournament to buy strips and support DMI staff costs during the events.

The Centre has continued to engage various years from their major sponsors in the fund-raising events, such as Annual Golf sponsored by Intra Africa Assurance Co.
